Many websites offering "Fixed Fee & Cheap Services" sounds attractive, great for on-line purchases, but can be very deceiving for any quality construction project. Look for the "Best Value of Service" Construction cost, suitable builders, are important, but the "Quality of Service" at the initial planning stage is fundamental to the success of any project. Planning drawings become worthless, if no quality  buildings can be built from them. Building regulation drawings are provided to pass statutory approvals, but "Tender Construction Drawings" @ 1:5 scale detail, door/window schedules, detailed electrical diagrams & site visits, are the services you need - "No online company can provide this Level of Service" -  but we do, our office is in Horsham are"Architects & On Site, With You!

Architects provide a "Bespoke Service", from the initial meeting,  until the project is built & all works fully completed. Sadly, in U.K. its totally unregulated, anybody can call them selves a "Designer" & make planning submissions.. Websites Marketing Companies , promoting planning services, some have no contact addresses or qualifications shown, low fixed fees, high volume turnaround sales, promoting 3D surveys, or "Price Comparison Websites, Introduce Services Out of The Area" works for purchasing insurance etc, but limited in a "Construction Project." "Value of Service Will Be Limited/Restricted"  Pointless,, when your monies spent & the projects not completed. To increase your chances of success, you need to meet the architect direct. We even recommend a suitable builder, rather than trust a "Cold Call Letter" promoting their services. Websites that advertise as providing "Architectural Services", are not architects, their service in providing simple plans/elevations become worthless if they cant be upgraded to detailed construction/specification drawings. The word "Architect" is protected in law, so, others get round to promote "Architectural Services".

Unqualified design companies, include chartered surveyors, engineers, contractors with in-house design (they may provide a simple design, to access/promote their other services) compared to architects, who specialise in "Design & Run Projects On Site" study over 7yrs, possibly up to 15 years to be a fully qualified arb registered architect (Architects must be registered with arb - Architects Registration Board, Pass Exam - Part 3 RIBA Advanced Diploma In Professional Practice In Architecture) 

You wouldn't ask a  unqualified doctor to be your surgeon, provide advice remotely - the outcome, could be catastrophic & costly. They need to be qualified & there with you to perform their task. Home-owners should have  an assured "Quality of Service", that's the increased "Value" of using an architect. Constantly correcting mistakes made by unqualified companies, attracted by their cheaper fees, especially see bad lofts/dormers (using in-house designers) the rooms, space's so cramped & convoluted, in some cases, don't become apparent when the contractor gone, the monies paid, the dust has settled - Should be  celebrating not commiserating -The alternative is easy, talk to us first! "Architects" Oversee all of the project, formulate your brief, provide a "Scope of Works" & design, provide construction/schedule information & even run projects on site too. Maximising your design, discuss permitted, planning, structural implications, access, drainage etc. Submissions are getting more complicated & difficult, mediate, negotiate for you, reason with planners of ergonomic advantages, functions, natural light, modern materials, technological  improvements @ help to get the approval -  "Alternatively, leave it to chance  without us?"

Every Architect is Different - Easy Check List To Ensure They are Qualified & To Guide You: 
1.Registered with arb (Architects Registration Board - *Note - RIBA Membership - "Not Proof", may be "Affiliate Member" "Are not qualified architects" (very confusing) 
2. "Must Be Local & Listed On Main Page 1 In Google (not in  Ad Campaign - will be out of area) know planning/building control officers, able to meet on site easily"  If they are out of the area, its difficult & may only provide a "Telephone Consultation Service" with "No" site visits for volume turnaround sales.
3. Should be experienced in commercial/domestic projects & have completed projects to show & site visit too. Images used should be own projects & not others or 3D images.
4. Architects lead a "Design Team"  introduce "Main Contractor" Local suppliers, all help produce a successful project.
